Norrsken Data

A mirror of open sky and Earth data

Norrsken Data keeps full copies of openly licensed radio astronomy surveys, satellite imagery, terrain models and weather archives on servers in Sweden. Independent researchers and hobbyists can download them at full speed instead of waiting on the original archives.

Access

Browsing the catalogue is open to everyone. Downloading needs a free researcher account: a single dataset can be hundreds of gigabytes, and our bandwidth is donated.

We approve accounts by hand, usually within a week. Tell us who you are and which datasets you need.

All downloads run over HTTPS and support resuming. For datasets over 1 TB, use a download manager or wget -c so an interrupted transfer picks up where it stopped.

About

Norrsken Data is run by a small group of volunteers who got tired of slow downloads from the original archives. The servers sit in Sweden, close to the main research networks of Northern Europe.

We are not affiliated with the agencies and observatories that produced the data. We only mirror datasets that are published under open licences, and each one links to its licence and original source.
